What they do...

Liquid Crystal Displays are a very well-developed technology. This display type has existed since the 1970s and continued to improve and impress ever since. LCDs utilize the properties of polarized light. Displays are composed of two thin plastic sheets split into pixels containing liquid-crystal gel. A wire grid allows electrical charges to be directed to each individual pixel activating a color change. The polarization can be seen looking through a pair of polzarized glasses held at just the right angle.

In its 7th generation, LCD displays currently rival every other TV technology in performance, price, and size. LCD displays stand out in viewing angle as well as keeping a steady contrast ratio in a variety of conditions. These qualities make LCD TVs ideal for viewing movies and displaying video to large groups in various environments. What they don't do...

LCD technology has evolved for a reason. Ghosting, the duplication of the same image slightly offset to the original, was and still is a problem for LCDs. Response time has been increased enough to where this problem cannot normally be noticed by the naked eye, but the problem has not been eliminated.
